Conversation at the Café Cubus:
What
would YOU like to talk about? A Fulbright Teaching Assistant from the U.S.
leads and guides members through conversation topics of their choice,
helping them to become more fluent in English. Call us for more information.
“Let`s Talk About It”:
Conversation classes for junior and senior high school students led by
Fulbright Teaching Assistants take place at different schools in Linz and
Wels. Call us if you are interested.

Der Grüne Tisch: A Fulbright TA who has a
degree in International Relations and a student at Johannes Kepler
University who is getting his degree in International Management will talk
with members about current events in international affairs and how they are
viewed by the media in the U.S. and Austria. This group will meet four times
at Café Traxlmayr (Promenade 16, Linz) starting on Wednesday, March 10th,
from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. A contribution towards expenses is requested. Kindly
call to make your reservation by March 8th.
Thursday at the Spitz:
Many of our long-time members meet Thursday mornings from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
(except Austrian holidays) at the Hotel Spitz (Fiedlerstrasse 6, Urfahr) to
catch up and practice English. Anyone who has time is of course welcome to
drop in for a chat.

Invictus, the 2009
drama inspired by Nelson
Mandela`s role during the 1995 Rugby World Cup in South Africa. It was
directed by Clint Eastwood and stars Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon, each
nominated for an acting award. The Teaching Assistants will lead a
discussion following the film.

Austrian
Cheerleading Championship,
Vienna |

You can be a spectator at the
thrilling annual championship that showcases the athletic and choreographic
talents of cheerleading squads from all over Austria, including
The Diamonds
from Traun. The competition is at the Dusika Stadium, Vienna, and starts at
2:00 p.m. Tickets are available at all Raiffeisen Banks and

will leave Linz at about 11:00 a.m. and cost €20.00 per person. Call Mr.

“Counter-Terrorism from the Bush to
Obama Administration“ |

We are very pleased to welcome Mr.
Philip Kaplan, 1st Secretary, Embassy of the U.S.A. in Vienna, back to Linz.
He will give an informative talk on U.S. counter-terrorism policies. In
light of the planned closure of the Guantanamo Bay complex and the most
recent incident with the “underwear bomber” on Christmas Day, this evening
promises to be interesting. It will take place at the Oberbank Donau-Forum,
Untere Donaulände 28. An aperitif and refreshments will be served.

Cooking Fest |

This is an opportunity to prepare and try some dishes that are very popular
in the U.S. Along with a hobby cook from Ohio, we`ve selected a 3-course
menu of delectable Southern dishes (like Jambalaya) that are fun to cook and
will please your palate. The kitchen and dining room at Haus der
Frau ( Volksgartenstraße 18, Linz ) are reserved for this half-day
cooking and eating extravaganza. The cost of the ingredients, including a
tasty cocktail, and the contribution towards expenses is €20.00. The number
of participants is limited to 20.

Tour the World
of Discovery and Plant |

This afternoon is sure to be an
exciting and informative experience at Austria`s largest industrial
facility. Since opening on November 7, 2009, Voest Alpine`s World of
Discovery (“die Stahlwelt“) has been a place for hands-on encounters, where
people can explore the realms of steel production, processing, products and
steel success stories. After visiting the exhibition in its one-of-a-kind
building with our English-speaking guide, we`ll take a bus on a tour through
the plant and watch the production of steel sheets close up. Finally we`ll
enjoy a drink in the café on the top level of the World of Discovery, where
the view`s worth seeing.
The two tours will last a total of 3
hours. Limited to 40 people. For a ticket, transfer €9.00 to our

Please arrange your own
transportation, but let us know if you`d like to car-pool.
